StarForge preview – The most ambitious indie game in history

StarForge, a free to play open world jack-of-all-trades shooter/builder developed by CodeHatch (a team consisting of only two developers and one composer) has once again sprung from the shadows of development to showcase itself. For such a small team, the work they’ve accomplished is remarkable. The following video demonstrates the majority of what they’ve created for StarForge so far.

No indie game has managed to leave a jaw dropping first impression in its alpha state the same way Crysis did after it was finished, but I have a feeling this will come pretty close.

There is a playable alpha available here though it lacks some of the content featured in the video.

Some are describing this as ‘realistic Minecraft‘ and the potential for that is definitely there, but there can be much more beyond the building aspect. A fully dynamic parkour and stunt system seems possible with enough work. Team deathmatch involving sky-diving is definitely possible. Team invasion or general open world survival also come to mind. What kind of game will this be by the time it’s fleshed out more? It’s hard to tell but with the foundation it currently has it will undoubtedly impress us by the time it’s done.

This will have to go into my increasingly large catalog of promising game alphas that won’t be released for another year.

If you want a GOTY award, it's as simple as parkour + augments + Turok style dinosaur hunting.
