Valve has introduced a new gamemode called Mann vs. Machine coming August 15th as the first of three new additions to the popular team based shooter. You team up with four friends to fight hordes of robots trying to plant a bomb in one of the many Mann Co. factories; the first one being Mannworks.

There will be apparently be opportunities to level up your character’s abilities as your progress and to win loot if you survive all of the waves. What kind of items you can win is still a mystery, but in a couple days we’ll find out.

On a related note, this is one of the biggest updates TF2 has received in its five year lifespan and serves as a good example for how to properly service a game series. Think of how many sequels Valve could have chopped this game up into by now. (Yes, that’s right Activision. A series can go five whole years without seeing a sequel and still make money.)

If you’ve never played TF2, now is a better time than ever to try it out. It’s available for free on Steam. Pick up a copy so you can be ready for the new gamemode!
