Although not the action packed follow up to Dawnguard that players would have preferred, Hearthfire allows you to purchase a deed to your own land that you can build a home on.
Essentially this is just an enhancement of the home system included in vanilla Skyrim; functioning more like an elaborate version of Habbo Hotel than an actual home designer. You can live in your home with your family and raise children just like you would in real life, assuming your real life took place in Tamriel and you were a Dovahkiin…
The question is, will anyone bother purchasing this DLC? Sure, Bethesda has had dumber DLC ideas but isn’t the appealing factor of Skyrim the element of adventure? Who wants to take a break from that to sit around positioning their trophies and saving their children from wandering into skeever dens like idiots? Perhaps some people actually want that extra dash of immersion but my gut says that kind of player will be found on the PC, not the 360.
Hearthfire can be purchased on XBL September 4th for 400 Microsoft points ($4.99) and has not yet been announced for PC and PS3.
